What is ListServ?
ListServ is a mailing list server that enables users to communicate by distributing email to a group of users with a common interest. It is available for use by campus organizations, classes, departments, committees, and other University groups. There are two types of lists that are available for use: discussion and announcement. Announcement lists are used primarily for notification while discussion lists are used to facilitate conversation between the group members.
How do I request a ListServ list?
Click here to access the ListServ request form. Once you have filled out the required information for the ListServ request form, click submit.
How do I send mail to a list?
To send mail, or post, to a list, address your email message to: email@example.com. Listname is the name of the list that you are sending the message to, example: firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information, visit the ListServ owners tutorial.
I am trying to unsubscribe from a list but LISTSERV says I'm not subscribed. Why?
It may be that the email address that is registered with ListServ is not the same one that you are trying to unsubscribe with. If the problem cannot be resolved, email email@example.com ("listname" is the name of the list that you are subscribed to).
If this does not work, you can contact the list owner and ask the list owner to remove you from the list. You can also use the ListServ subscribe/unsubscribe form to change your subscription status. For more information, visit the ListServ subscribers tutorial.
I subscribed to a list and I'm being flooded with messages. I'm interested in the list and don't want to unsubscribe. Is there any way to fix it?
Send email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following text in the message body: set listname mail digest. Replace "listname" with the name of the list that you subscribed to. ListServ will consolidate the mail from that list into a single large message, by default once a day. For more information, visit the ListServ subscribers tutorial.
Messages sent to ListProc are bouncing back with another address, why is this?
ListProc is no longer supported by the University. ListServ is the new campus mailing list system. Also, check the mailing address that you are sending the message to; it should be the name of the list at listserv.csus.edu, example: email@example.com. For more information, visit the ListServ owners tutorial. If you require support, then please contact the IRT Service Desk.
