KACE Campus Software Patching

Information about the software and computer OS patching process.

Overview

Sacramento State uses Quest's KACE product (also known as KBox) for desktop computer management. This includes managing software updates and security patches on University owned computers.

When

Patching occurs on Thursday of every week, timed to be spread throughout the day.

How

Computers that receive patches via this process will receive a pop-up asking the user of the computer to proceed with the patching. They will have the ability to defer installing patches to a later time. Once patches have been installed, there will be another prompt to reboot the computer if needed, which can also be postponed.

  • Adobe Products (Flash, Reader, Acrobat)
  • Web Browsers (Chrome, Firefox)
  • Microsoft Office
  • Java

Why

Maintaining software updates and patches ensures computers are protected against the latest software exploits which provides the best possible protection of our University network, computers and data.
